Kate Palmer

Mental Health Social Worker & Art Psychotherapist

Kate is a highly experienced Mental Health Social Worker and Art Therapist with a deep commitment to supporting individuals and families through both chronic and acute health challenges. Over the course of her career, she has worked across a range of complex clinical settings, including the Royal Children's Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital (formerly Lady Cilento), and the Mater Hospital. She now leads Creative Understanding as Clinical Manager and Founder. Kate has been working in the field of health for over 16 years is experienced in supporting young people and their families through their health journey, encompassing both chronic and acute health challenges. 

Kate has continued her work in health into private practice, supporting families and young people through end of life and palliative care, bereavement care, chronic pain and through health treatments e.g. Cancer Care, Brain injury rehabilitation and persistent pain. 

 

Kate works with adolescents, young adults, couples and families, offering a thoughtful, tailored approach to each person she sees. Her practice is grounded in genuine collaboration — recognising that healing and growth happen best when guided by the client’s own pace, values and needs.

 

In addition to her clinical work, Kate provides supervision and support to fellow health professionals, fostering a culture of care, reflection and integrity within the field.

With a warm presence and a strong foundation of clinical knowledge, Kate creates a safe space where clients feel heard, respected and empowered.
